At Squire House, we design plans for landscape projects large and small. We specialize in perennial garden layout. Call or stop in our office to learn more about our design service and to see examples of landscape plans. Walk through the Squire House display gardens for ideas and inspiration for your own yard.
The first step in the process of design planning is to schedule an on-site consultation. The fee for a 45 minute consultation is $125 (Twin City metro area). We will discuss your landscape needs, look at the existing site conditions and make recommendations. Estimates for design drawings are then provided and you can decide if you'd like to go forward with the cost of the landscape plan.
After the design plan is completed, you have a choice of hiring your own contractor, doing the work your self or working with one of our qualified subcontractors to install the work.
Design clients are given a 10% discount on plant materials purchased from Squire House Gardens.

The carefully considered
landscape designs provided by Squire House Gardens reflect the polish
gained by many years of hard-won experience and expert training. Your
design will elaborate on the positive aspects of your garden and home
such as good sunny aspect or
notable architectural features and diminish negatives such as
unpleasant views or harsh walls. A wide range of hardy and reliable
plants will be selected to maximize the garden experience throughout
the entire year. Our designs rely on simple, sensible outdoor spaces
and beautiful cohesive planting arrangements. We always seek to go
beyond the ordinary and to circumvent clichés.
The Key
We believe the key to a successful design is to identify a particular personality for the landscape based on the personality of the homeowner, the home itself and the natural environment. Once this personality or theme is identified, the details are carefully composed to create a harmonious experience.
Practicality
We consider all aspects of maintenance. The amount of time the homeowner can devote to maintaining the landscape is perhaps the most important consideration. Once this is established successful decisions about the plants and their arrangement can be made. For example larger volumes of flowering shrubs may be used instead of beds of perennials which require more tending. Our many years of experience (and admittedly many years of mistakes!) guide us to choose the best possible plants for the soil and light conditions inherent in the site.
Some benefits
Time and money will be saved as we carefully assess aspects of the landscape design what will thrive in a difficult spot or how large trees and shrubs will be in five or ten years. Sometimes it is simply a waste of money to plant certain plants where conditions are hostile.
A good landscape design creates a welcoming and comfortable setting for your home to be enjoyed by you and your successors.
Move forward sensibly and at your own pace with confidence as aspects of the design are implemented from year to year.
Getting on with it
If you plan to stay in your home and feel ready to make a commitment to a beautiful landscape, call us to schedule a consultation. We will get to know you and your landscape and begin to reveal the opportunities therein. By the end of our consultation you will have gotten a lot of practical advice as well as a broad outline of what we can do for you.
This will be followed by a description and estimate of the design costs.
What you get
An accurate site map with your home and garden with all existing or new features (paving, structures, trees, beds). You will then possess a clearly drawn lay-out of your landscape, maps of plantings and additional drawing to elaborate details of the plan.
Drawings are concise and clear so that you may execute the plan or effectively communicate with a landscape contractor.
At our presentation meeting, a packet of materials with photographs, thoughts and notes, lists and reduced-scale drawing for ease of examination will be provided. We then review the plan, answer questions and discuss implementation.
We will remain available for follow-up help and advice. We can also assist in obtaining plants for your new landscape design.
We sincerely care about what we do and want you to love your new garden!
